manga at libraries

A library I go to has manga, orderable through the library system. I approve -- now I'll get to read more than I otherwise could. However, I also find myself being quite wary and suspicious about the mangas listed. So far, I haven't found anything horribly filthy -- but I'm always keeping my eyes open!

I certainly know what I want to read, or not read, and can look after myself. My concern is little kids who couldn't afford to buy much manga but love it, and would probably read anything if they could get it for free.

I guess I feel that libraries have a greater responsibility to fulfill with manga and other illustrated, kid-friendly books than they do with adult novels. Most kids don't read adults novels, with or without objectional content, but comic books, even "adult" manga, are very kid-accessible, because they rely more on pictures than words.

I think libraries need to be especially careful in what they choose to stock. (Most parents think a comic is a comic is for kids, so they won't be much help guiding their kids' choices.)

Fortunately, in my limited experience with libraries and manga, it appears the librarians in my area have, for the most part, used restraint and good taste.
